This lockdown, I think we all deserve to really relax and look after our mental health. I’m going to be taking long bubble baths, reading, drinking lots of coffee and bingeing so many new Netflix shows over the next few weeks and probably rewatching some of my favourites.
I’ve come up with a list of 5 of my favourite shows on Netflix. There’s a bit of everything for everyone so whether you like comedy or if you prefer supernatural shows, I’ve got you covered. So grab some popcorn, a cup of tea and get ready to binge some telly.
If you haven’t watched Bridgerton yet then where have you been since Christmas day? It’s all me and my friends have been talking about for the last 2 weeks.
Bridgerton is a period drama set during the Regency era in London and is based on the book series created by Julia Quinn (and yes, I will be reading this series ASAP!) It follows the life of 8 Bridgerton siblings trying to find love. It’s dramatic, very sexy, emotional, the dresses are beautiful and the music is phenomenal! Who knew we needed a string quartet cover of Bad Guy, Thank U, Next and Wildest Dreams?! I didn’t, but I love it and now I want to wear corsets, go to grand balls and be courted by a handsome and wealthy man. Oh my, I never thought I would ever say those words.
I’m not usually into period dramas because I just never ‘got it’ before now. So, if you are thinking “ugh, another period drama” just trust me and watch it! It’s like a regency version of Gossip Girl. Just a fair warning for you, it’s not very family friendly so I don’t recommend you watch it with your family. I’ve seen so many people online saying they started watching it with their family and regretted it. Haha.
New Girl has replaced my love for Friends and I love Friends. I remember watching New Girl when it first came out but I didn’t watch every episode so in the beginning last year, I started watching it from start to finish. It’s a comedy about middle school teacher Jessica Day, moving into an apartment with three other men after breaking up with her boyfriend. It’s hilarious and each character is so unique and funny. I quote Schmit and Nick on the daily! There are 7 seasons so this show will keep you busy and laughing for a few months. There’s also quite a few celebrity cameos so keep an eye out for Taylor Swift and even Prince! My only complaint is why on earth did they scrap that iconic intro halfway through a season out of nowhere? I really don’t understand why they did that. P.s Nick Miller is hands down my all time favourite fictional character. He is iconic.
I am still watching Schitt’s Creek so no spoilers please! If you like a sitcom, you will love this show. After watching just a few episodes I realised why it’s won so many awards over the years and why it is so popular. It’s hilarious, sarcastic and everything I look for in a sitcom honestly!
It’s about a rich family who suddenly go bankrupt and the only thing they are left with is a tiny town called Schitt’s Creek. The dad is played by Eugene Levy also known as Jim’s dad from American Pie and the mother, Moira is played by Catherine O’Hara who is famously known for playing Kevin’s mum in Home Alone.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
I am still emotionally recovering over the ending of Sabrina. I love this show so much and I started watching it as soon as it came out and I’ve been a fan since day one so when they announced that part 4 will be the final part I was heartbroken.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a dark supernatural Netflix original based on the Archie comic book series. It’s not cute and funny like the classic show ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ that you’re probably thinking of. It’s a dark, twisted and gory version with lots of drama and magic. It’s set in Greendale, a fictional town neighbouring Riverdale (yes, the show Riverdale but don’t worry, it’s 1 million times better than Riverdale) following Sabrina Spellman as she juggles being a teenager as a half-witch, half-mortal.
Unfortunately, it’s been cancelled after only 4 parts and I am heartbroken. I cried my eyes out after watching the last episode, I’m not sure if I’ve ever cried so much at the ending of a show before. There are however 36 episodes so there is a good amount to watch and it will keep you entertained for a while. It’s one of my favourite shows and I will be rewatching it over and over again. I love any coming of age show and the fact that this contains magic and horror makes it ten times better! Also, the special effects and the makeup in this show is incredible!
How To Get Away With Murder
I’ve watched so many TV shows and How To Get Away With Murder is one of the most unpredictable and gripping series I’ve ever watched! There’s a lot of trigger warnings with this show so please make sure you research those if you have any triggers before you watch it.
HTGAWM is about a group of law students who work for criminal law attorney and professor Annalise Keating but their lives quickly get turned upside down when they get involved in a murder. This show is thrilling and each episode leaves you guessing what’s going to happen next. The show is written in present day with flashbacks and flash forwards which is pretty gripping. There’s a lot of murder, a lot of lying and a lot of plotting. It’s highly addictive and there’s 6 seasons in total and the last one was only released in 2020 so it’s a fairly new show. I’ve yet to watch the last season but I’m going to start it in the next few days so please don’t spoil it for me, thanks.
What are some shows you want to binge over the next few weeks? Have you seen any of these shows before?
